Imcheonggak holds a long history of 500 years as the largest dwelling house existing in South Korea, the head house of Andong Goseong Lee Clan. This is one of the typical luxurious house in Joseon dynasty, holding Anchae, Jungchae, Sarangchae, Sadang, Haengrangchae and tiny Byeoldang(Gunjajeong) and garden. Although 50 rooms of Haengrangchae and sub-structures were destroyed under Japanese colony, it was originally a large house with 99 rooms.

Yeongsanhyeongam Lee Jeung, who was the sixth son of Lee Won(1368-1429) who held the high government position called Yeongeuijeong at Joseon dynasty King Sejong(1418-1450) initially settled down in this place impressed by its beautiful atmosphere. The house was constructed by Lee Myeong, who is the third son of Lee Jeung and held a position of Hyeongjojwarang. The nickname Imcheonggak is derived from Do Yeonmyeong's "Guigeoraesa(歸去來辭)". As a phrase from the poem says, "Whistle on the east hill, write a poem by the clear stream", its name took its letter "Im" and "Cheong". It is also recorded on Lee Junghwan's Taekriji, "Imcheonggak is one of the most important place to visit, along with Guiraejeong Yeonghoru".
